2017 4th Year Hike List

4th Year Hike Packing List (Updated 6/2017)

Hiking backpack ( padded waist belt and shoulder straps)
Bungee cords, straps, or strong elastic ( if needed to hook on tent or sleeping bag) “Mummy” type sleeping bag ( the kind for backpacking ­ lightweight ­ under 5 lbs.) Lightweight backpacking sleeping pad
Small tent ( 2­3 girls will share ­ 6lbs. or less)
Small roll of plastic for tarping ( like painter’s plastic)
Small flashlight or headlamp with good batteries
Rain poncho ­ lightweight ( can be a 99 cent plastic one)
Cup,small plastic bowl or pie pan ( lightweight), fork, spoon, or “spork” ( no mess kit needed)
Personal Items ­ accessible during hike ( outside pocket of backpack):
2 (qt.) water bottles (or equivalent) or a “bladder.” Bring 3 if you require more water. Duct tape ( wrapped around water bottle ­ to help with “hot spots” or blisters)
Sunscreen
Chapstick
Small roll of biodegradable TP and/or flushable wipes (put in small ziploc) Inhaler or meds needed on trail
Clothing
To wear or use on the hike:
Hiking pants or lightweight jeans and a t­shirt ( can be camp shirt)
Hiking boots or athletic shoes ­ good soles with traction ­ BROKEN IN! NOT NEW! Good socks (Wool/synthetic blend hiking socks are best. Thin nylon socks worn underneath the wool as a liner also helps with blisters. Cotton socks will hold moisture and will irritate.) Hat with brim
Bandana ( to protect neck from sun)
*Due to the recent rain an extra pair of shoes is a good idea.

To pack: (good idea to pack in gallon ziplocs)
Lightweight jacket/sweatshirt ( Manter Meadow is warmer than Big Meadow) 1 extra t­shirt
2­3 extra pair of socks
Sleeping clothes ( sweats or stretch pants, knit beanie to hold in warmth) Modest swimsuit or shorts/lightweight t­shirt to play in water
Small towel ( “Sham wow” works great)
Personal items ( travel size ­ pack in small ziplocs)
Toothbrush/toothpaste
Brush or comb
Biodegradable soap
Sanitary items
Medications/small 1st aid items (band­aids, duct tape, etc.) Mosquito repellent
Study
Photocopies of scriptures ( a few pages) for study or a military size Book of Mormon Paper and pencil or pen ( camp journal) * Please do not bring full size or personal scriptures, because of weight and the chance of getting ruined.
Optional
Camera (NO CELL PHONES) Mylar blanket
Pack should be app. 25 lbs. total weight including food. (Food provided at camp. Please contact us if you have food allergies/gluten intolerance, etc.)
